Acerca de Punta Cana Bavaro
There are many experiences to be had in Bávaro and the other resorts and communities in the Punta Cana area. A trip to this part of the Dominican Republic will inevitably be shaped by your interests and preferences, as there are simply too many places to stay, beaches to explore and local sights to take in. The one certainty is that if you're looking for a picturesque and relaxing place to spend a few days, this cluster of beachfront developments will suit your needs.
Conozca la ciudad
If spending time on the beach is your primary motive for coming to the Dominican Republic, Punta Cana and Bávaro will provide the perfect backdrop for your trip. The white sands stretch to the horizon, and the many resorts calling this area home each have their own slice of tranquil shoreline for guests to enjoy. Relaxation comes easily when the natural surroundings are so beautiful.
After a few days of sitting on the sand and enjoying the sun and the waves, you may develop a hunger for adventure. The coast of Bávaro offers spots for diving, including itineraries designed for advanced scuba enthusiasts, such as the wreck of El Astron, a huge ship in 39-foot-deep water. The freighter was making a delivery from Russia to Cuba when it went down in 1978. The ship is now in two pieces, and scuba expeditions frequently use it as an adventure destination.
Golf is another major attraction in the greater Punta Cana area. Within the town of Bávaro, you can find the Iberostate Bávaro Golf Club, designed by Pete Dye to incorporate complex and challenging bunkers and water hazards. To the north, you'll find the Punta Blanca Golf Course, created by Nick Price and incorporating the area's wetland features into its layout.
Enjoy the Region
Take a short drive beyond Bávaro and the Punta Cana resorts, and you'll find attractions that connect you to Dominican culture. For example, the town of Higüey is home to the architectural wonder of the Basílica Catedral Nuestra Señora de la Altagracia, with its iconic 225-foot arch reaching skyward. Though the cathedral dates back to only the 1970s, its central painting of the Virgin Mary comes from the 16th century.
You can also discover museums devoted to specific elements of Dominican identity. The Yucayeque Museo Indígena highlights the unique rituals, tools and foods of the native population of the island, combined with appreciation of the natural landscape. The ChocoMuseo highlights one of the country's key exports. It describes the production of chocolate, from cacao harvesting to candy making.
However long you spend around Punta Cana and Bávaro, you’ll find new places to hold your interest.
